Self-Indulgence Post: I AM FOREVER DUNE!

"...I must not fear.

Fear is the mind-killer.

Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.

I will face my fear.

I will permit it to pass over me and through me.

And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

Where the fear has gone, there will be nothing.

Only I will remain.”

The Art of Complaining: Actually, There is NO ART in IT! It’s Just Whining!

Young students think they have a lot to do in college with reading, writing, homework, research, essays, presentations. BUT, they have a syllabus that tells them when everything is due. They think they have it so bad. HaHaHa. I say to them, enjoy it while you can. Just wait for the real world...where there are no general instructions in life. Where responsibility is yours and yours alone. Where you will work 40+ hours a week, pay higher work taxes, make mortgage payments, pay exorbitant property taxes, pay for home insurance and warranty, pay for health insurance, pay for life insurance, make car payments, pay for car insurance, spend thousands of dollars on your children’s welfare (health, clothing, education, extracurricular activities, etc.), drive your children to the millions of activities they partake in 24/7, 365, make sure all bills are paid on time; errands done on time. All this while having to live in the real world without any real structure. You are on your own. You must do all these things without a syllabus. Good luck without all that instruction and without the guidelines. On the other side, Kudos to those students who already have to do both: live in the real world while being a college student. That is arduous and gutsy. My hats especially off to those who seldom – or NEVER  complain!

PTK T-shirt Poll: Need Your Input, Phi Theta Kappans!

Phi Theta Kappans, our advisor, Lea Keesee, wanted me to share this message with you in order to get your input.  Phi Theta Kappa FQK at Midland College is working on a t-shirt project this summer; we are calling it the “Accept ptk project.” The reason for the project is to promote Phi Theta Kappa on a wider scale. Our long-term goal is to get more Midland College students, who are eligible to join FQK, to accept membership. As some of you well know, many students are leery about the legitimacy of Phi Theta Kappa, so many do no bother to inquire further; therefore, they miss the opportunity to belong to our prestigious honor society. The shirts will help our chapter promote PTK as we distribute the shirts to key personnel throughout the campus to wear during important events (New Student Orientation, Club Fair, etc.) throughout the year.
* The input we would like from each FQK member is whether we should have the logo (pictured below) placed on both the front and back of the shirts? There is an extra fee to have the logo on the back. I believe the shirt color will be a heather grey. Any other ideas and/or comments are welcome.

TEXAS ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY 2016: ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL EVENT!

Thanks to everyone for another successful FAMILY OF PHILIP GUZMAN JR (Adopt-a-Highway) clean up event: Eva, Felicia, Erica, Aurora, Michelle, Alex, Josie, Jabier, Heather, Austin, Patty, and Dora.
A special thanks to my niece, Erica, and her husband, Nick, for hosting the lunch at their home following the clean up. The food was delicious, guys. THANKS. The fellowship was wonderful as well.
Our family is just so super and wonderful. I am grateful for them. I am equally grateful to them for welcoming my friends into their lives and making my friends feel so welcome.
I am also thankful for my awesome friends -- for all their hard work and effort.
My cup truly runneth over.
Family and friends rock! (And NO SNAKES! Woo hoo!).
