PTK: Patty Chick for Vice President of Services
My name is
Patty Chick and I will be running for this year’s Vice President of Services. I
recently had the opportunity to attend this year’s Nerd Nation and I am eager to
take what I’ve learned at Nerd Nation and help to make our Phi Theta Kappa
Chapter a 5 Star Chapter here at Midland College.
Let me begin
by giving you a little background of myself. I am currently a part-time student
here at Midland College. I am married and have 3 children ages 12, 13 and 20.
My 20 year old and I recently took a class together and I thought that was very
fun. I do not work, I am currently a stay at home mom which gives me a lot of
flexibility to devote and dedicate my time to Phi Theta Kappa. I have been a military
brat, as they say, growing up and then married into the Military with my
husband. It has always been my way of life. It has taught me strength,
structure and organization skills which I will be using to help make Phi Theta
Kappa successful. I have also been able to travel abroad through the Military
and have seen and met many diverse nationalities and have experienced many
cultures through my travels.
On the
softer side of me, I have a heart for service. I enjoy helping people,
something that has been instilled in me by my parents. They have always taught
and showed me to love one another, help others, and take care of those in need.
Being Catholic, I look up to Mother Teresa of Calcutta as my patron saint, my
special guardian. I also admired the works of Princess Diane. I love what they
stand for.
For those
reasons, I have chosen to run for Vice President of Service. I am confident
that, we together, will make our Phi Theta Kappa at Midland College a huge
success.
Thanks and
Many Blessings,
Patty ChickPTK: Dora Carey for President
Fellow
Phi Theta Kappans, I am running for the position of president. There are a variety
of reasons why I would be honored to be your president – as well as reasons why
I would make an ideal leader for our chapter. I have been in the corporate
world for over twenty years. I have dealt with CEOs and various other executive
managers. I am not afraid of hard work nor do I get easily intimidated by
people; however, I am a firm believer in treating everyone with respect. I am
diligent in making things happen. If I do not know the answers, I find them,
but more importantly, I ask others for help. I have had extensive training in
the corporate world and was named ‘district manager of the year’ three years in
a row. I worked hard to climb the proverbial ladder. I was fortunate to have
held executive management positions without a college degree.
Every
ten years I find myself doing something different with my life; I love a
challenge. My latest challenge is to get my degree. This is my third time in
college. The first two times I left college for wonderful career opportunities.
This time around, I was determined to finish college and finish strong. Not
only because of a promise I made to my late mom a few days before she went home
to meet her Maker but because of a promise I made to myself long ago.
I
have always placed high demands on myself and always been a hard worker and
fast learner. I am a firm believer in being a student of the world each and
every day. A college professor from Texas Tech once told me, “learn a little
about a lot, and you will get along with anyone.” I still follow his advice. I
also follow the advice my late parents embedded in me, which is to help others
and to always pay good fortune forward.
I
have so many ideas I want to bring to fruition for our Alpha Beta Phi Chapter.
Many of the ideas have been in my mind since I accepted membership two
semesters ago, but the most grandiose of ideas I learned from attending Nerd
Nation in Maryland. It was a truly magnificent trip. I made several new
friends, and I networked a lot. I made alliances with Phi Theta Kappans from
our Texas region as well as from other regions, including the international
officers from around the country/world. I mention the ties I made during Nerd
Nation because those associations are going to benefit our MC chapter a great
deal.
As
your president, I will continue the arduous work I currently perform as your
treasurer; however, as your president, I will work harder. I want to make
everyone feel as if he or she is a part of, not only the best group on our MC
campus, but I want to make everyone feel like a valued family member. I will
always listen to and ask you for your ideas and opinions. I will continue to
maintain an “open door” policy and will reply to your questions and concerns on
a timely basis. My vision for our chapter is too much to list, but at the end
of the day, my vision will help bring our chapter the notoriety and respect it
deserves. Together, with a strong leadership team and committed participants,
we can make our chapter successful. Aristotle said it best: “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”
PTK: Heather Dudley for Vice President of Five Star Project
VOTE HEATHER DUDLEY
FOR PTK VP OF FIVE STAR PROJECT
Hello PTK! My name is Heather
Dudley, I am a full time student at Midland College and work in the Student
Center on campus. I am married and have two sons. Despite starting college a
bit later in my life, I have been able to identify with many others that must
balance home, work, and school responsibilities. I take my academic studies
seriously and help others as much as I can. As a result, I was selected to
receive the “Who’s Who” this year for Midland College. Furthermore, as a member of the Alpha Beta
Phi chapter, I would work diligently to see our PTK chapter become more active
here at Midland College. With some coordination and effort, I would be honored
to co-labor with you to develop the Honors
in Action program so that it too would be a blessing to our fellow students
at Midland College. I was able to attend Nerd Nation this year in Maryland and
I am so grateful for that opportunity. I learned a lot at Nerd Nation and would
like to apply new ideas to our chapter. Seeing our chapter succeed and become a
five-star chapter is possible with all of us working together. I am earnestly looking
forward to new beginnings with the Alpha Beta Phi Chapter at Midland College. I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to PTK and
to all who would consider and support my candidacy for a Phi Theta Kappa
officer. Thank you and God Bless!
